Woodland management

This chapter outlines some of the issues which need consideration when planning the management of a wood. Most woodlands are managed in consultation with other agencies, and any woodland planting or management for which grant aid is being sought will require consultation with the Forestry Commission or other grant aiding body.

Woodlands are an important part of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, and management should be in accordance with the Action Plans drawn up for woodland habitats and species. For further details see the UK Biodiversity Action Plan, or contact your local biodiversity officer through the local authority or nature conservancy agency.
