Replacing hafts and handles

The advice given below assumes some knowledge of how to use carpentry and metalworking tools, such as Surforms, files, hacksaws, drills and so on. People not familiar with these tools should refer to a general DIY manual. In some cases there may be more than one means of achieving the desired result, but for brevity only one alternative is usually given.
