This chapter describes the main dune grass species which form the pioneer vegetation of the foredunes. An important part of any dune stabilisation work is the transplanting of grasses, usually marram, to reduce wind blow at the surface, and create a living system of dune growth and stabilisation. Fertilising, turfing and transplanting of shrubs are also described.
